My thoughts exactly. He does need a mentor...because he never grew up with any role models. His parents died when he was only a child. His uncle died when he was a teenager and then his aunt gets shot when he's in college. So pretty much all he has for family are his friends. That's the reason why he sticks around even though UK gives him shit all of the time because deep down he really loves them and wants to be there for them. And they will need him. Before the end.
